in the Renaissance but its history goes back to Greek
settlers. The present Croatian name of Hvar derives
from the Greek `Pharos'. The town is located in an attractive
surrounding and the climate in September/October is
mild and pleasant. The main tourist season ends by the
end of August, and by the middle of September the place
is very quiet and suitable for a scientific meeting.
The nearest international
airport is Split, from which there are numerous
connections to the harbour of Hvar.
The ferry-boat (see Jadrolinija
web site) takes about 2 hours and the speed-boat takes
30 min. The bus service from the harbour to the hotel
